Why Read this Book?
If following Jesus feels heavier than you expected… you’re not alone.
About the Author: At 22, Ben Sawyer stood at the graves of his brother and sister, who tragically died too young, and prayed a desperate prayer: that God would grant “a blessed life for each of us, in my one life.”
What followed wasn’t a straight path. It was a wilderness. But what Ben couldn’t see at the time…was that God began answering that prayer immediately. Across decades of leadership, loss, growth, and surrender, God was quietly weaving blessing and formation together — using seasons that felt confusing to shape a life that would carry more impact, healing, and purpose than Ben ever imagined.
When Faith Feels Hard is not a story of instant answers. It’s a story of a faithful God who works in ways we don’t recognize until later — redeeming pain, restoring identity, and leading us into joy that is deeper than circumstances.
• If your faith feels heavy…
• If your prayers feel unanswered…
• If your story feels unfinished…
This book will help you see:
• Your wilderness may not be wasted.
• God may already be writing the answer.
Who’s really
in charge?
The Leader Dialog series explores the journey from personal restoration to trustworthy leadership.
Many leaders today possess intelligence, experience, and influence — yet quietly struggle with the same question: “Who’s really in charge of my life?” This five-book journey traces a simple but profound pattern.
1. First, God restores the heart.
2. Then the Cross surrenders the self.
3. Finally, aligned authority multiplies life.
Beginning with the personal wilderness of faith and culminating in the architecture of aligned leadership, these three books explore how transformation in the soul ultimately reshapes families, organizations, and cultures.
Together they present a single principle: “Submitted authority is the only authority that endures.”
KILL THE LIZARD
C.S. Lewis’s classic The Great Divorce contains a haunting picture of the root beneath so much of our sinful behavior. In Chapter 11—often called “The Lizard Chapter”—Lewis depicts the painful but life-giving turning point of surrender: allowing our sinful nature to die so that new life in Christ can truly begin.
Lewis imagines sin like a small, red, whispering lizard perched on our shoulder—taunting, tempting, and accusing us. It feeds our shame and keeps us from drawing near to God. The Holy Spirit offers to silence it for good by killing it—but He will not do anything without our consent. Our freedom requires a clear, willing “yes.”
Most of us would rather negotiate. We try to keep the lizard alive—promising to manage it, tame it, or gradually quiet it. Deep down, we fear that letting it die will cost us something essential, as if our old nature is tied to our survival.
God, in His mercy, allows us to feel the weight of our choices so we can see the truth: what we’re protecting is slowly destroying us—and keeping us from the joy we were made for. Using Lewis’s story as a gateway, author Ben Sawyer and his wife, Linda, share their
own journey of “killing the lizard” and the new
life of freedom and joy that resulted.
Grounded in Scripture and written for real life, this book offers a clear pathway of surrender that will renew your faith and lead you into the identity God created you to live.
